Kids allergies 101 – the how to feel better guide

One sneeze, two sneezes, three sneezes…ok, the kid might be suffering from allergies. Remember with Spring comes allergy season. Although it might feel like a cold, symptoms are quite similar. How do we get an allergy?

You can get it outdoors or indoors when foreign particles known as allergens attack your immune system and he fights back. Some allergens that causes allergies are:

  • Dust mites - Especially numerous in bedding, upholstered furniture, and rugs
  • Pets - Animal dander is composed of tiny, even microscopic, flecks of skin shed by cats, dogs, rodents, birds and other animals with fur or feathers. These bits of skin can cause allergies.
  • Pests - Are attracted to food remains and humidity
  • Pollens - Trees, grasses, and weeds release these tiny grains into the air to fertilize other plants

  • Use air conditioners

  • Avoid playing in piles of dead leaves
  • Remain indoors when grass is mowed and avoid playing in fields of tall grass
  • Before letting them outside, check out the approximate pollen levels for the day with the pollen checker or map
  • Invest in a good air filter
  • Don’t smoke
